Every now & then, when I try opening an Excel tệp tin, I get a message saying that "Excel cannot open the file "file.xlsx" because the file format or the tệp tin extension is not valid. Verify that the tệp tin has not been corrupted and that the tệp tin extension matches the format of the file." Please see attached image.

Is this an excel tệp tin that is being edited by multiple people running different versions of Excel or by someone using Apabít OpenOffice/LibreOffice?

Is the file local or on the network? If the tệp tin is on the network try copying it locally & opening the tệp tin. If you can open it locally it may be a user permissions or network issue.

I see this most often when a tệp tin has been transferred around a lot và gets corrupted due to bad sectors on hard drives, bad thumb drives, etc...

Occasionally, I find a repair utility that will....kind of....fix it. You tover to lớn đại bại all formatting và usually the user would have khổng lồ spkết thúc more time redoing that file than simply starting from scratch. If on a tệp tin server, shadow copies(previous versions) are a god skết thúc.

If it happens completely randomly, does it happen more often to the same group of people? Perhaps an update malfunctioned? Reinstall Office?

There could be so many reasons this could happen, but all the above sầu is where I"d start.
